This Butter Garlic Naan bread is incredibly delicious and easy to make and can be enjoyed with any stew or curry of choice.
It is basically a yeasted flatbread cooked on a pan similarly to Simple Butternut Whole Wheat Chapati or whole wheat chapati though we don’t fry it as we do to the chapatis rather we brush it with butter after cooking. It requires just a few ingredients to come through and then every one can enjoy with a bowl of stew or curry. Though indigenously best with butter chicken, any other curry or stew would do. It has it’s origin from India and most Indian restaurants serve it but you can make yours at home by following this simple recipe.
How to make the Buttery Garlic Naan Flatbread:
Start by measuring out all the ingredients that you need, that is, the flour, yeast, sugar, salt, water, milk, oil, butter, garlic, sesame seeds & chopping up some cilantro (dania) leaves. In a large mixing bowl, add in the all purpose flour, yeast, sugar and salt and whisk together till well combined.
In another small bowl add the milk, water & oil. Mix till well combined.
Make a well at the center of the bowl containing the dry ingredients and pour in the milk mixture. Knead till the dough comes together for about 10minutes. (You can use a stand mixer for this if you have one). Then shape into a ball.
Grease a bowl with a little oil and place the dough inside. Cover with a plastic wrap and a wet towel then allow to rise until it doubles in size, for about 1.5 to 2 hours in a warm place.
After the dough has risen, punch it down to remove the air.
Then divide it into 12 equal pieces. (You can use a kitchen weighing scale to achieve this). Using a rolling pin, roll out each one at a time .
Heat your pan till hot then place the rolled out naan on the hot pan and let it cook on each side for about 3-4 minutes.
As the first naan is cooking, melt the butter in another pan then add in the granulated garlic, sesame seeds & cilantro (dania) leaves.
Once both sides are cooked through, use a pastry brush to brush both sides of the naan with the butter mixture.
Repeat with the rest of the breads till done then serve while hot with any stew or curry of your choice. You can try with some coconut chicken curry and sautéed cabbage or Meatballs in white sauce gravy. Enjoy.
