There are many ways of cooking chicken. Making chicken in honey & sesame sauce is one of the most delicious ways to enjoy this meat. It is a quick and easy method yet a healthy recipe. Am sure by now you know am advocate of simple, delicious and healthy meals 😉 . So without further a do, let me take you through the steps of making and enjoying this crispy, sweet and spicy chicken delicacy.

Preparation and cooking

Start by cutting the chicken breasts in small bite size pieces. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs then add in the soy sauce and water. Add in the gram flour and whisk till the batter is smooth and with no lumps. Toss in the chicken pieces and make sure they are well coated with the batter. Let sit for 10 minutes

Heat the coconut oil in a non-stick cooking pot/ sufuria over medium heat.Using a pair of tongs, place the chicken pieces in the oil and let them cook till golden brown.

Make sure the pieces are not touching each other as they could clump up. Keep turning them till all sides are well browned.

Remove to a bowl or plate. Keep repeating the process till all the chicken pieces are cooked.

In the same pot/ sufuria, add in the sesame oil and cook the minced garlic, ginger and turmeric paste till fragrant.

Add in the dania stems, pureed tomatoes, honey , apple cider vinegar, lemon juice and gram flour, stir till well combine and cook for a minute.

Return the chicken pieces to the cooking sauce.

Then add in the water and let cook for 8- 10 minutes.

Finish by seasoning with salt and pepper then stirring in the dania leaves and sesame seeds if using them

Notes:

* Gram flour: This is the flour from chickpeas hence gluten free. Incase you don’t have it on hand or you are not gluten intolerant, feel free to substitute it with regular all purpose flour.

** You can use any other cooking oil of your choice instead of coconut oil.

*** If you don’t have sesame oil, you can use any other oil instead though you will not end up with “honey sesame chicken” but Sweet Fried Chicken😉 which is delicious either way.
